New love for the Mac

After years of outpacing the PC industry, and with predictions that it may be poised for double-digit market share, the Mac is finally getting some love from those that have neglected the platform - and its users - for so long. First up is Intuit:

  • Previous version: Quicken 2007 for Mac
  • New version: Quicken 2015 for Mac

Sadly, after eight years, the Mac version is still not up to par with the PC version (and no, the disastrous 'Quicken Essentials for Mac' released in 2010 doesn't count). Still, I'm glad to see it updated.

Next up is Microsoft:

  • Previous version: Office 2011 for Mac
  • New version: Office 2016 for Mac

Unlike Quicken, at least one early review say Office 2016 for Mac finally catches up to its Windows equivalent. Although I wonder if it's coming too late for some. Fed up with Office, I've largely switched to using alternatives like Apple's iWork, so this may be the first version of Office that I don’t buy.

Anyway, it's nice to see the Mac getting some well deserved love.

  • Quicken 2015 for Mac was released last fall. It is generally least expensive on Amazon, or like others you could try an alternative.
  • preview version of Office 2016 for Mac was announced today. Microsoft hopes to have the final product released by summer.
